What is a "gateway page" you ask?. Also known as "ghost pages", gateway pages greatly increase the number of words a person will be able to find you under when they do a search in Yahoo!, Excite, Altavista, Google and hundreds of other search engines that roam the web spidering pages. Each gateway page that you create should contain different keywords and be uploaded under a different name (ie; index1.html, index2.html, index3.html, etc). All gateway pages should point to the page you want your visitors to be taken to (usually your main page). A visitor may arrive at your gateway page while doing a search for "fish recipes" or "car repair" and be automatically transferred to your main page only to discover that your site is about something completely unrelated but many people will bookmark your page for future reference and return even if they were not specifically searching for what you were offering. Lots of people have a web page, a friend with a web page or know someone who has a web page so all of your visitors are potential candidates. Try not to use more than ten (10) keywords per gateway page since most search engines place the highest relevance on only the first 7-10.
